Did you know . . . . that for years our cheerleaders were backed up by a large Pep Club?
The Pep Club dates back to at least the early 1940’s and was comprised of all girls.
The purpose of the Pep Club was to help the cheerleaders by cheering our teams to victory, from the stands! Some years, they would also raise money to help the school. For example, in 1954, they raised and spent $60 on a window fan for the girls locker room.
Rules and expectations varied slightly over the years; in 1966, the girls were expected to where a distinctive black and white uniform and attend all conference games.
Some years the Pep Club was so large that they filled 2 full buses to travel to away contests.
The last reference, in a yearbook to the Pep Club was in 1980.
