Pirates News · DID YOU KNOW? #105

Did you know . . . . that PCHS has a school song?

The school song is a rendition of the University of Illinois “Loyalty” song, which was written in 1907. Many high schools have used this song as either their fight song or their alma mater song.

The Pirate rendition (below) was first used in 1940.

We’re loyal to you, PC High
To you we’ll be true, PC High
We’ll back you to stand ‘gainst the best in the land
For we know you have sand, PC High
Rah! Rah!

So follow that ball, PC High
Go crashing ahead, PC High
Our team is our great protector;
On boys, for we expect a Victory
From you, PC High

Fling out that dear old flag to which we’ll be true
Bring on your girls and boys fighting for you
Like men of old – on giants, placing reliance, shouting defiance
Rah! Rah! Rah! Rah!

Among the broad green hills that nourish the land
For honest labor and for learning we stand
And unto thee we pledge our heart and hand
Dear Alma Mater, PC High

Rah Rah     Rah Rah Rah
Rah Rah     Rah Rah Rah
Rah Rah     Rah Rah Rah

Below is original Illinois “Loyalty” song

Words and music by T.H. Guild, 1907

We’re loyal to you, Illinois,
We’re “Orange and Blue,” Illinois,
We’ll back you to stand ‘gainst the best in the land,
For we know you have sand, Illinois, Rah! Rah!

So crack out that ball, Illinois,
We’re backing you all, Illinois,
Our team is our fame protector,
On! boys, for we expect a victory from you, Illinois!

Che-he! Che-ha! Che-ha-ha-ha! Go Illini, Go!
Che-he! Che-ha! Che-ha-ha-ha! Go Illini, Go!
Illinois! Illinois! Illinois!

Fling out that dear old flag of Orange and Blue,
Lead on our sons and daughters fighting for you;
Like men of old, on giants placing reliance, shouting defiance,
Oskee-Wow-Wow!

Amid the broad green fields that nourish our land,
For honest Labor and for Learning we stand,
And unto thee we pledge our heart and hand,
Dear Alma Mater, Illinois!
